On Big Moose Lake in the Heart of The Adirondacks

Among the many lakes in the Adirondacks, Big Moose has a history and personality all its own. On July 11, 1906, this peaceful wilderness lake became the scene of the famous murder in the Adirondacks that inspired Theodore Dreiser’s novel, An American Tragedy , the movie “A Place In The Sun” starring Montgomery Clift, Elizabeth Taylor and Shelley Winters, and the Metropolitan opera, An American Tragedy composed by Tobias Picker.

While a century has past since Grace Brown’s fateful boat ride into Punky Bay of Big Moose Lake, the event remains a fascinating and colorful backdrop for visitors who come, year after year, to enjoy all that the lake has to offer. Here, you will find a relaxed, unique setting. Accessible only by boat, Big Moose’s sparkling waters are surrounded by forests and mountains. Explore nature’s sights and sounds from a canoe or boat...have fun waterskiing or tubing…or sit back in comfort and cruise along the picturesque shoreline in a pontoon boat.

Dunn’s Boat Service is open May thru October, 7 days per week. From July 1 to Labor Day, we are open 8am to 7pm. After Labor Day, we are open from 8:30am to 5pm.

 

During the winter, we offer 93 Octane snowmobile gasoline 24 hrs using our credit card activated pump.
